East Cross Street
Ypsilanti, pronounce "Ip-sill-on-tiy," is a town in southern Michigan, located 6 miles east of Ann Arbor and 35 miles west of Detroit on the Huron River. It is often referred to by the nickname "Ypsi."

The town was established as a fur trading post by a trader from Montreal in 1809. It was officially made a town in 1823, then called "Woodruff's Grove." It was renamed its current name in 1829, in honor of Demetrios Ypsilanti, a hero of the Greek War of Independence.

Today, Ypsilanti is known for its notoriously misprounounced name, quaint downtown area, automotive history, university, and recent growth.
