Williamsport is a town in northeast Pennsylvania, on the Susquehanna River, and located approximately in between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

The area was originally inhabited by the Iroquois Native American Indians, but settlement began in 1786. It was officially made a town in 1806, and became prosperous off the logging industry.

Today, it is known for its quaint downtown area and tranquility.

Hunter S. Thompson: After being asked to leave the Air Force in 1958 for being too much of a "rebel" with a "superior attitude," I moved here, at the age of 21. I accepted a writing job as a sports editor for a newspaper here. I did not stay here long, and later in 1958 moved to New York to pursue journalism.
