Valenciennes 001
Valenciennes is a town in the Nord-pas-de-Calais region of northern France, close to the Belgian border and on the banks of the Scheldt (or, in French, Escaut) River.

It was first mentioned in history as Valentiana in 693 AD.

Today, the town is known for its beautiful architecture, modern trains, and its historic lacemaking.
