The University of St. Andrews is a public research university in St. Andrews, Scotland. Of the four ancient universities in Scotland, it is the oldest, and it is the third-oldest university in the English-speaking world. It consistently ranks as either the 3rd or 4th best university in the United Kingdom.

It was founded in 1410 by a group of clergymen who had been, collectively, the University of ParisUniversity of Oxford, and the University of Cambridge over religious disputes.
