Tournai is a large town in western Belgium, located 53 miles southwest of Brussels on the River Scheldt. 

The town was originally founded as Roman trading post town located on a busy road, then known as "Tornacum." It was made into a fort in the 3rd Century, and was in the early middle ages the capital of the Frankish empire.

Today, Tournai is know for its history, pictaresque beauty, city shops, architecture, river-front, high number of French language speakers, and cathedral.

Henry VIII: I invaded this town in 1513, leading my armies during my war against France. This was the first major city that I conquered, and it gave me a glorious taste of battle.
