Taos is a town in northern New Mexico. Its name, taken from a Native American word, means "Place of Red Willows."

The area was settled by the Pueblo Native Americans, and the first pueblo was built around 1000 AD, making the pueblo village the oldest continuously inhabited place in the United States. European settlement began in 1615 by the Spanish.

Today, Taos is mainly known for its pueblos, Native American culture and heritage, history, and downtown area.
