Tampico is a coastal city in eastern Mexico.

A Spanish mission was founded here in 1532, but was abandoned in 1684 due to frequent pirate attacks, particularly one by Laurens de Graaf. The city was re-established in 1829 by Spanish-Cuban forces.

Today, Tampico is known as a major site of export, mainly of oil, copper, wood, hemp, and silver.
