Taiji is a town in Japan, founded in the 17th Century as a whaling village.

Today, the city has been the focus of worldwide criticism and outrage over its practice of hunting small whales and dolphins.

Taiji in People's Lives

Isabel Lucas: I traveled here in October of 2007 to participate in an anti-whaling and dolphin culling protest, alongside Hayden Panettiere. We surfed out to meet the hunters about to kill the dolphins, but were intercepted by patrol boats and forced to return to land. We then rushed to the airport before we could be arrested. Hayden and I both still have outstanding warrants for our arrests in Japan, though I have since attended a movie premiere in the country without any issues.
