Tacoma is a port city in western Washington state, located on the Puget Sound. It is 32 miles southwest of Seattle and 31 miles northeast of Olympia, and is the third-largest city in its state.

In 1864, a Civil War veteran built a cabin here, which served as his home and the town's post office. The town was made official in 1875.

Today, Tacoma is known for its beautiful mountain scenery, outdoor activities, open minded and hip atmosphere, port, waterfront economy, boating, and downtown area.
