Stamford is a city in southwestern Connecticut. It is the third-largest city in the state and the seventh-largest in New England. Part of the extended New York metropolis, it is about 30 miles from downtown Manhattan.

It was originally a Native American settlement known as Rippowam, until a European town was founded in 1640 and renamed after Stamford, England.

Today, Stamford is known for its harbor, business district, and quality of life.
