Stafford is a town in the county of Staffordshire in the West Midlands of central England. It is the 4th largest city in Staffordshire.

The town was most likely founded around 700 AD by a Mercian prince, as a hermitage and holy place.

Today, Stafford is known for its Shakespeare Festivals and as the location of Stafford Castle.

William the Conqueror: I put down a rebellion here and in the surrounding areas, in 1070. I gave the land to one of my earls, and ordered him to build a castle here, which became Stafford Castle.
