Spokane is a city in eastern Washington state, located on the Spokane River 92 miles south of the Canadian border, and 20 miles from the Idaho border. It is the second largest city in its state. It is also the birthplace of Father's Day.
Inhabited since ancient times by Native Americans, the first European settlement was in 1810, as a fur trapping town.
Today, Spokane is known for its surrounding mountains, parks, environmentalism, outdoor activities, lilac trees, and sporting events.
