Scottsdale is a city in the state of Arizona, located in the northern area of the Sonoran Desert and bordered by Phoenix. It is nicknamed "the West's Most Western Town." Its downtown area has been compared to South Beach in Miami, except replacing the beach with a desert.

Originally, the land was inhabited by the Hohokam Native Americans, who had lived in the area since approximately 300 BC. It was first settled by Europeans in 1888, as a farm. A town was formed soon after, called "Orangedale." The name was changed to Scottsdale in 1894.

Today, Scottsdale is known for its surrounding mountains and desert, downtown area, natural beauty, colorful sunsets, riverfront and canals, and arts and culture.
