Sao Paulo
Sao Paulo is the capitol of the state of Sao Paulo, the largest city in Brazil, and the 6th largest city in the world by population, with 11.3 million inhabitants. It is the most profitable economy in Latin America and Brazil.

The city was founded as a Portugese village in 1554. Today, Sao Paulo is known for its massive size, sea of skyscrapers, heavy congestion and traffic jams, its high profile status as the home of countless international businesses, and the number of events in art, fashion, and business that are held there.

Sao Paulo in People's Lives

Luma Grothe: While traveling here in 2010 with a group of friends, to enter a casting call for a local modelling agency, I was discovered and introduced to the world of high fashion modeling at the age of 16. My career quickly took off from there.

Magnus Carlsen: I traveled here in September of 2011 to compete in the first round of the Grand Slam Chess Final.

Thairine Garcia: I was born just outside this city, far enough outside town that the little village is so tiny it is barely even on maps - and certainly not written about or photographed enough to collect any sort of information for its own seperate page on this encyclopedia. This city, close to where I grew up, has always played a large part in my life. It is where I began modeling at the age of only 13, causing a sensation in the fashion industry when I landed my first cover, of Elle Brasil, at the age of 13. The same year, Vogue had announced that it would stop using models under the age of 16, but once they saw me, they immediately broke that promise in the same year, putting me on the cover of Vogue Nippon. I am currently agency represented here by my mother agency, Way Model Management, and frequently am here for modeling work.
