Santa Marta is a city on the northern coastline of Colombia, on the Caribbean Sea. It is the capital of the Magdalena region and the third-largest Caribbean city in Colombia. It is the oldest surviving city in the country, and the second-oldest in South America.

Santa Marta was originally inhabited by the Tairona South American natives. It was founded in 1525 as a Spanish colony by Rodrigo de Bastidas.

Today, Santa Marta is known as a popular vacation destination, as well as for its beautiful but crowded beaches and Caribbean waters, maritime activities, bahia location, hilly landscape, and colorful downtown area.
