San Antonio is the second-largest city in Texas, and the seventh most-populated city in the United States. It is the fastest-growing of the ten largest cities in America.

The original inhabitants of the land that San Antonio rests upon were the Payaya Indians. The city was established as a Catholic missions town in 1691, and named in honor of Saint Anthony of Padua.

Today, San Antonio is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful, liveable cities in the United States. It is known for its skyline, historic downtown area, riverwalk, lights displays during the holidays, sporting events, prescence of U.S. armed forces, and its large medical research center.

San Antonio in People's Lives

Brooklyn Decker: I traveled here in 2011 for charity work with the Wounded Warriors project. I visited hospitals and spent time with American soldiers that had come back to the United States injured overseas.

Hanna Merjos: I traveled here in 2015. While staying at my hotel, I undressed, covered myself in money, and took a photo, which I posted to Instagram.

Hunter S. Thompson: After making a wreck of my hometown back in Louisville and leaving with a criminal record, I moved here in 1955, at the age of 18, after joining the U.S. Air Force. I completed my basic training here at the Lackland Air Force Base. I left a few months after arriving here, to study electronics at an other Air Force base in Belleville, Illinois.

Lottie Deno: I traveled here from Detroit in 1865, and became a house gambler at the University Club, which was owned by the Thurmond family. This was how I met their son, the wealthy gambler Frank. After he was accused of murder around 1867, we fled this city together, and began a notorious life of gambling. I frequently returned during the 1870's to gamble in this city, and acquired the nickname here of "the Angel of San Antonio."
