Palace of Mirabell
Salzburg is the fourth-largest city in Austria, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.

The first settlers were the Celts in 5th Century BC, during which time two cities were formed in very close proximity to each other. The two towns were merged into one, then called "Juvavum" by the Romans in 15 BC.

Today, Salzburg is known as one of the most beautiful cities in Austria. It is known for its history, beautiful architecture, palace and castle, classical music history, and surrounding mountains.

Salzburg in People's Lives

Kendall Jenner: I traveled here in December of 2014 to walk in the Metiers D'Art fashion show by Chanel, with my friend Cara Delevingne.

Otto Rank: I was often here for psychanalytical events during my time as an intimate colleague of Sigmund Freud, from about 1918 to 1924. At the Salzburg Congress in 1924, I abruptly left for America before the conference was over. At the time, tensions were already running high in the circle following my radical publishing of The Trauma of Birth. After my departure, quite a bit of mocking went on at my expense.

Sigmund Freud: After years of rapidly growing popularity, I was convinced by Ernest Jones to arrange an official meeting of my followers in 1908, which took place in this city at the Hotel Bristol. It was first International Psychoanalytic Congress, and of the 42 attendees, half of them were either already practicing or just starting practicing psychoanalysis.
