Poughkeepsie is a town in southern New York state, located on the Hudson River in the Hudson Valley between New York and Albany.

The land on which the town stands was purchased from the Native American Indians in 1686. Settlers came shortly afterward, and Poughkeepsie was made an official town in 1720.

Today, it is known for its river location, bridge, laid back lifestyle, and boating.
