Portland is the third-largest city in Oregon and the 29th-largest city in the United States. It is located on the coastline of northern Oregon, close to the Canadian border.

The city was founded in 1845 by Francis Pettygrove and Asa Lovejoy, each of whom wanted to name their new settlement after both of their own hometowns. Famously, they flipped a coin for the name, and Pettygrove won, naming the new city after his native Portland, Maine.

Today, Portland is known for its indie scene, cuisine and food trucks, nearby mountains and forests, waterfront views, and for its unofficial yet telling slogan "Keep Portland weird."
