Port Hope is a town in the province of Ontario in southeastern Canada, located at the mouth of the Ganaraska River on the northern shore of Lake Ontario, situated about halfway between Toronto and Kingston.
The land was settled by the Cayuga Indians, a branch of the Iroquois confederacy, in 1779, and permanently settled by Europeans in 1793. The town of Port Hope was formed by Loyalists to the British Crown.
Today, Port Hope is known for its bridges and quaint riverside scenery.
