Port Alberni is a town in the province of British Columbia in southwestern Canada, located in the Alberni Valley on Vancouver Island.

Formerly the territory of the Nootka Native Americans, the first European contact was in 1787 by Charles William Barkley, who was traveling with his 17 year-old wife, the first European woman to set foot on the Canadian west coast.

Today, Port Alberni is known for its island location, deep natural bay, waterfront, salmon fishing, surrounding mountains, hiking, and water sporting activities.
