Papeete is the capital city of French Polynesia, located on the island of Tahiti. It's name means "water from a basket." It is the center of Polynesian business, economy, and government, and is also known as one of the most beautiful and luxurious vacation destinations in the world.

It was established around the 1950's. 

Today, Papeete is known for its beaches, crystal clear waters, vacationers, tourism, beach huts, other surrounding islands, forests, gardens, colonial architecture, colorful and vibrant atmosphere, relaxed way of life, and island beauty.
