Ouarzazate is a city in southern-central Morocco, bordered by the Sahara Desert and the Atlas Mountains. Due to its entrace location to the Sahara, it is sometimes nicknamed "Door to the Desert."
Since ancient times, the city has been a stopping point for merchants and travellers en route to northern Morocco and Europe. Its name is derived from a Berber phrase that means "without noise."
Today, Ouarzazate is best known for its ancient citdal, which draws in not only tourism but filming contracts with major movie production companies. The town is also notable for its location at the beginning of the Sahara, its carpets, and rich culture.
