House on Route 9W
Orangetown is a town in southern New York state, close to the New Jersey border, on the Hudson River. The famous Palisades cliffs are located within the town.

It was founded in 1680, the first settlement established in Rockland County. The first settlers were Dutch, and the land was officially purchased from the Native American Indians in 1686.

Today, Orangetown is greatly spread out and mainly residential, without any downtown area. It is notable for its riverfront, Palisades cliffs, natural beauty, and ruggedly luxurious homes.

Orangetown in People's Lives

Hayden Panettiere: I was born here in 1989, the first child of a fireman and a small-time former soap opera actress. I have Italian and German ancestry, and my last name means "baker" in Italian. I grew up here. Thanks to my mother's actress streak, I was involved in media from an early age. My first appearance was when I was only 11 months old, when I was featured in an ad for a toy train. I was featured as a child actress in the soap opera One Life to Live from 1994 - 1997, from the ages of 5 to 8. I continued acting, encouraged by my supportive family, while still attending Orangetown Middle School here like a normal kid. I continued school until the age of 15, when I switched to homeschooling to accomodate my acting career. I was cast on the TV show Heroes in 2006, at the age of 16. The show launched me into mainstream fame, and I moved away from here.
