Oklahoma City is the capital and largest city in the state of Oklahoma, located centrally in its state on the North Canadian River (called the Oklahoma River when inside city limits). It is the 8th largest city in the United States by amount of land, and is home to one of the largest livestock markets in the world.

The city was settled in a frenzied "Land Run" in 1889, in which the then unassigned land was set to be opened to settlers to dash in and stake a claim. Within hours of its founding, it was suddenly populated by over 10,000 inhabitants. It was made the state capital in 1910, taking the place of Guthrie.

Today, Oklahoma City is known for its sprawling size, downtown area, skyline, livestock industry, signature yellow water taxis, canals and riverfront, oil industry, conservationism and participation in the anti-pollution Clean Air Act, and modern botanical garden.
