Ocala is a town in central-northern Florida, partially located in the Ocala National Forest, the second-largest national forest in Florida.

Though inhabited by various tribes of Native American Indians for thousands of years, the first European settlement was Fort King - a stronghold built by the U.S. government in 1827 to keep out the natives. The town of today formed around the fort, beginning in 1849. It then experienced a golden age of wealth and prosperity, nicknamed "Kingdom of the Sun," and drawing plantation and slave owners.

Today, it is known for its beauty, horse farms, equine activities, and lush greenery.
