Nuuk is the capital and largest city of Greenland, located on the southwestern coastline of the country on the Labrador Sea. It is the world's northernmost capital city, situated only a few miles further north than nearby Reykjavik, Iceland.

The area has been settled for thousands of years, as far back as 2200 BC by Inuit tribes. In the 10th Century, it was a major Norse civilization. The city of today was founded as "Fort Godt-Haab" in 1728, a Danish colony.

Today, Nuuk is known for its icy beauty, cold sea and beaches, winter activities, and architecture.

Nuuk in People's Lives

Jared Leto: I traveled here in 2008 with my band, 30 Seconds to Mars, to film a music video for the song "A Beautiful Lie." I directed under a Thai pseudonym. I was adamant that the filming of the video impact the natural environment of this beautiful city as minimally as possible, and worked with the Natural Resources Defense Council to make this happen. The video was later recieved with acclaim, and went on to win the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Music Video. All proceeds from the video's sales went to the Natural Resources Defense Council.
