Naarden is a small town in the North Holland region of the western Netherlands. It was established sometime before the 14th Century.

Naarden is best known for its recognizable shape, originally built in order to provide the fort located there with more safety and defense features. Seen from above, Naarden's unique collection of moats, islets, geometric land patterns, and canals give it the appearance of a star inside a series of waterways and strips of land.
