Mytilene is the capital of the Island of Lesbos off the eastern coast of Greece, and also the capital of the Aegean Sea Region. 

An ancient city, it was founded in 1054 BC, and later written about by Homer. 

Today, Mytilene is known for its deep natural harbor, island life, churches, ancient ruins, and architecture.

Julius Caesar: I participated in a siege of this city while serving in the Roman army, in 81 BC. I was 19 years old, and was afterward presented with a Civic Crown for my bravery in the battle.
