Mercersburg in People's Lives

James Buchanan: My family moved here when I was five years old, in 1796. My father built a two-story brick house here, which we lived in. That house still exists today, now a hotel named in my honor. I attended Mercersburg Academy here as a boy and proved to be a good student. In 1807, at the age of 16, I moved to Carlisle, Pennsylvania to attend Dickinson College.
