Mechanicsville in People's Lives

Patrick Henry: I courted my childhood friend and sweetheart here in her hometown, often coming to her family's farmhouse, Rural Plains. In 1754, we were married in her parlor. I was 18 years old, and my bride was 16. At the wedding, her father announced that he was giving us a very generous wedding gift: a 300 acre plantation, nearby in my hometown of Studley. We were overjoyed and grateful.
