Matsumoto is a city located on the island of Honshu in central Japan. It is one of Japan's "Special Cities," meaning that it has a population of over 200,000 and that it recieves privileges and is eligable to before a "Core City" in the future.

Matsumoto officially became a city in 1901.

Today, it is best known for its beautiful temple and shrine.
