While working as Creative Director of Louis Vuitton, Jacobs collaborated with Stephen Sprouse, Takashi Murakami, Richard Prince, and Kanye West.

Jacobs sued Don Ed Hardy in 2010 for stealing one of his handbag designs.

Oscar de la Renta and Jacobs were amicable rivals, and de la Renta made a sharp quip to the media in 2013 that all but accused Jacobs of stealing one of his coat designs from 30 years earlier. In response, Jacobs sharply quipped back that he was not among those under the delusion that all fashion is genius originality.

Jacobs is a close friend of Anna Wintour. In 1999, she convinced him to seek help for his alcohol and drug problems. In 2013, he wore her women's Prada coat to an event - the same coat that she herself had walked into the event wearing earlier in the evening.

Jacobs is a friend of Naomi Campbell, who helped him get into a rehab facility in 1999 for his drug and alcohol problems.

Kim Gordon is a friend and muse of Jacobs.

Ruby Jean Wilson was Jacobs muse for his 2013 collection, and he helped to "put her on the map" in the fashion industry.

Jacobs is a friend of Chloe Sevigny.
