Mahwah is a town in northeastern New Jersey. The name is a variation of a Lenni Lenape word, "mawewi," which means "meeting place."

Originally inhabited by the Lenni Lenape Indians, the town grew around a mansion built here in 1901 by the son of Charles Crocker. It did not officially become a town, however, until 1944.

Today, Mahwah is best known as the location of an extravagent English manor house, a luxurious mansion valued at $22 million. It is also renowned for its other mansions and upper class homes, and quiet suburbs.
