Caldwell County Courthouse
Lockhart is a town in central Texas, located 30 miles south of Austin. It was founded around 1840, after the Battle of Plum Creek - a Texan victory over native Comanche Indians - was fought here. Originally, the area was named "Plum Creek" after the battle, but was later changed in honor of an influential land surveyor.

Today, Lockhart is known mainly for its barbecues, and has been unofficially proclaimed "the Barbecue Capital of Texas." It is also home to the oldest public library in Texas, and has been a filming location for various movies.
