Leon is the capital of the province of Leon in northwestern Spain. The city makes up for one quarter of the entire population of the Leon province.

It was founded as Roman encampment in the 1st Century BC. In the Middle Ages, it was one of the most powerful and wealthiest Spanish cities.

Today, Leon is known for its elaborate cathedral, architecture, downtown old city, history, and culture.
