Leesburg is a town in northern Virginia, close to the Maryland border and 33 miles northwest of Washington D.C. It is located at the base of the Catoctin Mountain along the Potomac River.
The area was inhabited by various Native American tribes before the first Europeans settled there in 1730's, mainly consisting of tidewater farmers who built up large, wealthy plantations.
Today, Leesburg is still recognized as a historic town, particularly from the Colonial era and during the Civil War. It is the site of many historic examples of architecture from these periods and historic plantations.
