Lawrence is a large town in northeastern Kansas, and the 6th largest city in the state. It is located 25 miles east of Topeka on the Kansas and Wakarusa Rivers. A college town, it is also the location of the University of Kansas and the Haskell Indian Nations University.

Originally, the land of Lawrence was inhabited by the Shawnee Indians, and later the Oregon Trail passed through here. The actual town was established in 1854 by a group of organized Massachusetts settlers seeking to live further west. It was named in honor of Amos Adams Lawrence.

Today, Lawrence is known for its universities, fall colors, similarities to a New England town, architecture, impressive castle-like courthouse, and beauty.
