Iwate is a town in central-northern Japan. It was established in approximately 700 AD. The current town of Iwate itself was officially created in 1955, after a cluster of smaller towns merged into one.

Today, Iwate is known for its downtown riverwalk area, mountain views, skiing, and cherry trees.
