Irving is a city in northeastern Texas, located 10 miles west of Dallas and 25 miles east of Fort Worth. It is considered part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, and parts of the busy Dalls-Fort Worth Airport lay within Irving's city limits. It is the 13th largest city in the state of Texas. It was one of the first master-planned major development cities in the United States.

The city was founded in 1889 as "Gorbit," but the name later changed to "Kit." In 1903, when plans and establishment began for a larger city, it was renamed Irving, which many believe was due to the fact that the mayor's wife's favorite author was Washington Irving.

Today, Irving is known for its busy metropolitan area, downtown, modern architecture and city layout, city skyline, as the home of the world's largest equestrian sculpture, for its number of Fortune 500 company headquarters, and lush trees planted throughout the city.
