Gorgeous beautiful street in Ioannina
Ionnina is the capital city of the region of Epirus in northwestern Greece, located on the shores of Lake Pamvotis and elevated 1,640 feet above sea level. It is approximately 50 miles east of the Ionian Sea.

The city was founded by Byzantine Emperor Justinian in the 6th Century AD. Following the sack of Constantinople in the 13th Century, many noble and wealthy families fled here, bringing a flourishing of wealth and culture to the city. From the 16th - 19th Centuries, it was a major center of Greek culture and enlightenment. It officially became a part of Greece in 1913 after the Balkan Wars.

Today, Ionnina is known for its graceful beauty, architecture, history, monasteries and mosques, universities and education, and culture.
