Indianapolis is the capital and largest city of the state of Indiana. It is the 12th largest city in the United States. It is fast growing and has taken major steps forward in the last 50 years, renovating its downtown area (and now ranked by Forbes as having one of the best downtown areas in the country) and modernizing itself.

The area was originally inhabited by the Delaware Indians, who were driven off in the early 1820's. The first European settlement here began around 1815, and by 1820, it was already being made the state capital, replacing Corydon. The city's name was invented by Jeremiah Sullivan, who joined the state name "Indiana" with the Greek "polis," meaning "city."

Today, Indianapolis is known for its growth, high quality of life, downtown area, canals, shopping, economy, business, skyline, tourism, sporting events, and relaxed, hospital atmosphere.
