Mary Boleyn: I grew up here, within the grand Hever Castle that was owned by my family. I grew up close to my sister Anne Boleyn and my brother George Boleyn, and was educated in arithmetic, grammar, writing, history, reading and spelling. I also was tutored in my family's geneology, and learned feminine graces such as etiquette, dancing, embroidery, household management, music, needlework, and singing. I also learned how to play card games and chess, and enjoyed falconry, archery, and hunting. In 1514, I left to accompany

Thomas Boleyn, 1st Earl of Wiltshire: I was born here in 1477, and this castle remained in my family for all of my lifetime and far beyond it. I was born into a wealthy family, the son of the Lord Mayor of London and his wife, an Irish noblewoman. I was the first of six sons, though I had an elder sister, and so Hever Castle and its surrounding lands passed to me. I was frequently here throughout my life, and truly regarded the castle as my home. My favorite child, Anne Boleyn, was born here in 1501.
