Harwich is a port town in the region of Essex in southern England, on the shores of the North Sea. The first known establishment built here was a chapel dating back to 1177, though the Romans may have also occupied the area much earlier. It was officially made a township in 1238.

Harwich has been a major port town for centuries, and remains a busy harbor for cruise vessels, and cargo ships, among others.
