The first European contact was by John Smith in 1608. The first settlement began in 1719 as a single small farm. The farm owner's son later established the town of Harrisburg in 1785.
Today, Harrisburg is known as the political capital of Pennsylvania, as well as for its night lights, skyline, historic buildings, and riverfront.
