Grosseto is a large town in the region of Tuscany in central-western Italy, located 9 miles from the Tyrrhenian Sea, on the Ombrone River.

It was first mentioned in history in 803 AD as a small town with one parish church. During the 12th Century, the town rose to become among the most prominent in Tuscany. During the Middle Ages, the city notoriously battled, rebelled against, freed itself from, and was reconquered by the Republic of Siena.

Today, Grosseto is known for its proximity to the coast, nearby mountains, villas and country houses, and medieval architecture.
