Gonzales in People's Lives

Sam Houston: In 1836, just over a week after signing the Texas Declaration of Independence, I traveled here to join my troops, and was highly disappointed. I found, instead of soldiers, a group of under 400 untrained ruffians. I immediately began training, and also became frustrated by a shortage in rations. Though progress was made, we were forced to retreat to the superior incoming forces of Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna.
