Godalming is a town in the county of Surrey, located on the River Wey 30 miles southwest of London, which it is often considered a far suburb or commuter town of.

It was first mentioned in history in 889, in the will of King Alfred the Great. It grew to prominence as a merchant town conveniently located halfway between London and Portsmouth. It was made an official market town in 1300.

Today, Godalming is known for its parks, hilly countryside, thick forests, its friendly relations with other European and Eastern European cities, and historic buildings.
