Georgetown in People's Lives

Washington Allston: I was born here in 1779. My mother owned a rice plantation, and though my father had passed away in the Revolutionary War a few months before, my step-father was the son of a wealthy shipping merchant. I was named after George Washington, who at the time of my birth was at the height of celebrity.
