George III.jpg

George III was King of England, Scotland and Ireland from 1760 until his death in 1820.

He had the longest lifespan of any previous English monarch, living to be 81, and the longest reign of any previous English monarch, reigning for 61 years. He also had 14 children.

His reign saw much war and change for England, and he is often viewed today in a negative light, as a scapegoat for the failure of imperialism.

He defeated France in the Seven Year's War, but lost the New World colonies in the American Revolutionary War. His forces defeated Napoleon at Waterloo.
